GEORGE SARKIS - "THE DOCTOR OF HORNS"

During a recent internet search for saxophone related information I found this forum. Although not related in the current sense, I find it fitting to mention a close friend of mine George Sarkis who was a prominently noted saxophone repairman, AKA “The Doctor of Horns” within the Delaware valley & New York area. Let us not forget the impact that George made on these nationally known jazz musicians of the time including Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Sonny Stitt, Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Cannonball Adderley, CharlieVentura, Buddy DeFranco, Benny Goodman, Roland Kirk, Clarence Clemens, and Paul Desmond to name a few. He was also responsible for introducing a new design of saxophone straps for his friend and associate Ray Hyman. This new design became popular with many saxophone players throughout the century. We have created a new tribute page located here: www.dannyluciano.com/dannys-blog/2011/12/8/george-sarkis-the-doctor-of-horns.html
