Silver Plate

My Bari has been buffed/re-lac'd 3 times and the tone in the upper register is much different then that of the Bari's of similar age/make/model that I've played. It was suggested to me that having it silver plated would add more material to the horn and might inprove the tone difficulties in the upper register. Is this a wise idea? Thanks!

    Re: Silver Plate

No. One, silver plating doesn't add much metal at all. Two, for the cost of having it properly stripped, prepped, plated, and overhauled, you could probably go most of the way to getting a different bari in great shape.
