C.G. CONN "New Wonder" Matte Gold Plate (Serial Number: 119420) Back to model

This is an early vintage Conn "New Wonder" tenor saxophone with over 98% of its original matte gold finish still remaining. The keys are gloss gold plated, as is the finish beneath the hand engraving. This tenor has that fat vintage Conn sound, but is especially warm thanks to the gold plating. It can still be plenty loud when pushed, but has an abundance of mid to low overtones and a buttery texture.

The physical condition of this tenor is excellent. There are NO dents anywhere on the horn. There are a couple resoldered posts, and the work on these is exceptional, only noticed because of some slight discoloration around the work. The original neck is likewise in fantastic physical condition. There is no looseness or “play” in any of the rods or mechanisms, further proof that this instrument was well cared for. The keywork feels great and the instrument responds very fast.  Really the only flaw to speak of are the mismatched rollers on the table keys.  A previous owner of this horn also customized the G# key to look similar to that of the fingernail file G# key found on the later Chu Berry Conn Saxes.
