This is a nearly perfect example of a post-WWII vintage Buescher 400 Top Hat & Cane alto. Just a year prior, the Buescher factory was at a crawl pace for instrument production because of the war effort. The only instruments made during WWII were for military bands.
This particular instrument is showcased in the Saxquest Saxophone Museum in St. Louis. Its in near mint original lacquer and is complete with the original case and all of the original paperwork from the factory.
The pads are original and equiped with Buescher snap-in resonators. The original factory set-up is still intact with all of the original hardware including gold plated Norton springs and amber rollers. The under side of the bell flare is re-enfored with Buescher's patended tone ring for added resonance.
The sound from this alto is both sweet and powerful. It can take all of the air you can give it and generate a HUGE sound. But the sound will remain equally intense when you play at ppp. The horn has a vibrancy that just can't be matched by any other saxophone.
