Zephyr (1935)
The Zephyr model started as the renamed Voll-True II, with only slight differences between the two horns. It had all the features of the Voll-True models; squared off F-sharp, E-flat and C keys, larger palm keys, a floating octave key cup, adjusting screw for bis B-flat and G-sharp, new guards that eliminated bumper pads, both bell keys place on the right side, C and E-flat tone holes rotated to the upper side of the bow, and a roller on the G-sharp key. The Zephyr also its own modifications. It was King's first saxophone with a dual socket neck, for more resonance, no forked E-flat key, three different rings for attaching the neck strap and a change to the adjustment screw with the G-sharp screw pushing directly on the key instead of the adjustment arm.
H.N. White very similar advertisements for the Voll-True and Zephyr models. The Voll-True add says, “Built on strictly modernistic lines, the striking beauty of the instrument immediately catches the eye. Every key is a new design. The high D natural and D-sharp keys are of an entirely new design, fitting the hand naturally without fear of losing control of the saxophone.” The add a year later for the Zephyr states, “All keys are made of a special alloy of hard material. Equipped with patented positive seating resonator pads. Improved G-sharp key assembly and new model octave sockets with improved register key action. Built on strictly modernistic lines, the striking beauty of the instrument immediately catches the eye. Every key is a new design. The high D natural and D-sharp keys are of an entirely new design, fitting the hand naturally without fear of losing control of the saxophone.”
King continued the Zephyr line with the Zephyr Special and Zephyr Series II.
