The Selmer Paris Reference series were first introduced as tenors in 2000. Two models were made available: the Reference 36 and the Reference 54. The 54 was designed after the Mark VI (introduced in 1954), and the 36 was designed after the Balanced Action (introduced in 1936). This is a bit misleading, as both horns featured modern keywork and similar feels to a modern Series II or III, but they do play more open and have a darker tone. The Reference series alto was introduced a couple years later, only available as a Reference 54.
The Reference altos were discontinued in 2021, after the introduction of the Selmer Paris Supreme.
