Although it started out slowly, demand for the Selmer Paris saxophone began to increase between 1917-1919. It was then that a decision was made that would forever change the scope of business at Selmer. By 1919, Henri Selmer had committed to the decision that Selmer would make saxophones in ernest using their own facilities. The Gailion factory did not have adequate capacity to shift into full time saxophone production so a new factory was opened in Mantes where saxophone makers Dolnet and Evette-Schaeffer had already setup shop. Henri and Maurice Lefevre were put in charge of production at the Mantes factory and by December of 1921 they had completed the tooling and developed new manufacturing methods for full scale saxophone production.
